With the season ending in a 4-way tie the remaining teams needed a playoff to determine the winner.

Quebec had voluntarily pulled themselves from the playoffs.  In the first-ever Stanley Cup playoff game AAA defeated the Montreal Victorias 3-2.  Five days later they went on to defeat the Ottawa Hockey Club 3-1 in the first ever Stanley Cup Championship game.
