The beginning of what we understand to be modern hockey starts to take form with the formation of the NHA.  Seven teams vie for the Stanley Cup with Renfrew, Cobalt, Haileybury, and a new club Les Canadiens coming in with a 2-10-0 record.

Les Canadiens would later become the better known Montreal Canadiens, the most successful club in Stanley Cup history.
