Before the 1899 CAHL had finished the Montreal Victorias kept possession of the Stanley Cup by beating the Winnipeg Victorias in a 2-game Total-Goals series keeping the trophy with the now named CAHL.

The Montreal Victorias had another dominating season, as well did the Montreal Shamrocks, who ended up beating the Victorias in the final game 1-0 to win their first Stanley Cup.

The Shamrocks also defended their title against Queen’s University in a 6-2 victory on March 14.
