In their first, of what would be many Stanley Cups, the Ottawa Hockey Club ended up tying the Montreal Victorias with a record 6-2-0 at the end of the CAHL season.  The two teams would play a two games total-goals series in which the Ottawa Hockey club won 9-1.

They followed that up with a 2-0 series victory against the Rat Portage Thistles - a team which would end up back in position to win the Cup again.
