The Montreal Wanderers would protest the use of players Alf Smith and Harry Westwick, but rescind that protest and end up winning the Cup anyways.

They brought the Cup back to Montreal where it was stolen and held for ransom.  The ransom wasn’t paid, and the Cup was returned.
